Olympic island lesson plan

July 21, 2008

Despite most schools around the country having already broken up for the summer, I still think that this lesson plan I came across might be of use for teachers of Key Stage 2 students. It could be used when children return to school in September to reflect on the Beijing Olympics, or as part of a lesson looking forward to the 2012 Games in London. Tailored to meet learning objectives in geography and citizenship, the plan involves students designing their own island. It also explores more general issues that hosting the Olympic Games gives rise to, including a role play with characters who are in favour of and opposed to the Games going to a certain area.

Although found in the Key Stage 1 Geography section of our video gallery, the videos from Unit 3: An Island Home would also tie in quite nicely with this exercise.
