How did the Vikings invade Britain?
September 30, 2008
You might have noticed that there have been a few changes to the blog recently. As we prepare to launch the new Primary module of science and literacy on the main gallery site, we thought that we would update the look and feel of the blog too. More developments are to come, so watch this space…
One thing we are going to start to do for all video posts is to provide the key information that goes with each clip in a simple table above it. This should make it easier to see what is covered in the clip, how it fits into the curriculum, and where it can be found on the main site.
What better subject to start with than history? It was always my favourite subject at school and as a history graduate I have to say that I feel a certain affinity towards the history clips in the gallery. If I have some spare time to peruse the site it is always the history section that I find myself drawn to first.
This is one of the Viking-related clips and shows how a divided England was an easy target for the surprise tactics of the Vikings.
| Title of clip | Viking Attack! |
| Curriculum location | History > Key stage 2 > Unit 6C: Why have people invaded and settled in Britain in the past? A Viking case study > Section 2: Who invaded and settled in Britain a long time ago? > Learning Objective: to use the terms ‘invade’ and ’settle’ |
| Description | Map of Anglo-Saxon Britain, explanatory commentary, and a re-enactment of a Viking attack on village. |
| Duration | 58 seconds |
Please note that this is an example clip provided through our YouTube channel and does not reflect the actual quality of clips in the gallery

Thanks a lot for your comment, and glad that you enjoyed the clip. Would be great to hear from you if you have comments on any of the other blog clips, or ideas for other topics that you would like to see example clips about.
